SNST Annual General Meeting on 21 March 2025 (2024 review)

The members of the Société Nautique de Saint Tropez held their ordinary general meeting on 21 March 2025. Nearly 100 members were present at the Club-House of the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez. 90 members were eligible to vote and 15 active members were represented. A total of 105 votes were cast.

SNST President Pierre Roinson presented the Société Nautique de Saint Tropez’s annual report for 2024. ‘2024 was a very important year for us. Our first objective was to bring our accounts up to date. We proceeded with a rigorous management of our events and a control of our costs in order to put back our treasury in balance. (…) The second objective is to know where we’re going. Today, the Société Nautique de Saint Tropez has an internationally recognised reputation for organising quality events, and given the reputation of the town of Saint Tropez, which is also world-renowned, we have a duty to live up to that reputation. The support of our major partners depends on our results and our positioning in terms of exceptional events. This is the case for our flagship event Les Voiles de Saint Tropez, but also the Paprec 600 Saint Tropez, the Swan Nation Trophy 2025, the TP52 maxi series and SailGP. Not forgetting all our major club regattas, including the Armen Festival, the Dames de Saint Tropez, the Aoutienne Trophée Pourchet, the Voiles d’Automne and the CIC circuit.

We’ll only continue to have the support of our partners if we live up to their expectations. I’d just like to give you a few figures on the enormous impact of the Voiles de Saint Tropez (separate page). We want to be even more professional in our communications, which is what our partners expect. And we have decided to devote a significant part of our budget to communications for each event, which will be the responsibility of Chloé Riet de Brouwer

The third objective. We must preserve the values of our club: welcoming all members, conviviality and exchange. The motor section is reviving its big-game fishing events, supported by our partner Suzuki (Patrick will tell you more about this), as well as our own activities, such as squid fishing. There are also themed evenings, club outings, the Friday evening aperitif, etc. To become a member of an association is to want to take part in its events to share the same passion.

Our partners: we cannot survive without our partners. 2024 was a complicated year for the renewal of certain contracts. The economic situation did not help us. I would like to thank Rolex, with whom we have renewed a contract for four years, and BMW, who has renewed its confidence in us for 2025. The Paprec company, which supports our ocean race: the Paprec 600 Saint Tropez. Suzuki Marine, with the loan of engines for our semi-rigid and the budget granted for the Master fishing. Brig, for the use of our rigid semi, which is very useful for the organisation of our regattas. And then the arrival of two new major partners, the Edmond de Rothschild bank and a private partner. I would also like to thank the Saint Tropez Town Hall, and especially its mayor Sylvie Siri, for her support, her commitment, her availability and her attentiveness, which has enabled us to work in complete transparency, in the knowledge that we have a common goal: to raise the profile of Saint Tropez. We need the municipality to organise our events, the technical services, the municipal police and all the port agents, and this would not be possible without a healthy relationship with these different administrations. Special thanks go to Michel Perrault, deputy mayor in charge of maritime and port affairs. (…) Finally, I’d like to thank our team of permanent staff for their commitment and availability.

Sylvie Siri, Mayor of Saint-Tropez and Regional Councillor :

“I’ll say it again, as you know, you are a major association in Saint-Tropez. You contribute completely to the international reputation of Saint-Tropez, both in terms of sport and conviviality, with these extraordinary events and all the results you have achieved in sport.

I’d like to underline all the links that have always existed between the town and the Société Nautique, particularly with Pierre, who is a very dedicated and competent President. He’s a great motivator and he’s signed some great contracts that have given this Club a new dimension. I’m delighted to be able to work with you, Pierre. We’ve always had a relationship based on trust and transparency, and I can see that there are a lot of you out there. We live in a society where there are hardly any volunteers any more, but in Saint-Tropez, we’re really spoilt and you, the Société Nautique, are really out in force in all the events and in organising this Club with all these moments of conviviality. You’ve really created a real life here in your Club and that touches our hearts.

Along with Michel Perrault, whom I would also like to thank for all the work he does, I wanted to tell you that we are at your side. You know when you need us, when we can be there. It has a lot of technical resources with agents at events, if only the Municipal Police, the technical services and the Port. It’s only natural, because you wear the colours of Saint-Tropez proudly.

I also wanted to introduce the new Port Director, and if you’ve been following Var Matin, we’ve reorganised the Port with a new director, Pascal Bonnet, who is here. I’d just like to say a few words about this. To sum up, it’s a complicated affair, but rest assured that we have taken the necessary measures to deal with the emergency. We had to guarantee the 2025 season. Given the specific nature and characteristics of the Port of Saint-Tropez, which is a mix of users with some of the finest yachts in the world, yachtsmen on the other hand, you the SNST, fishermen, the SNSM, in other words all the associations that have a stake in this basin. It was absolutely essential to preserve this.

During major nautical events, we need to free up the Port and give priority to the development of Saint-Tropez’s nautical sports. For all these reasons, my team and I found it extremely complicated to respond to applications from people who were unfamiliar with all these specific features and to whom we had to explain at a moment’s notice, in two months, that the Port had to free up spaces for events such as the Giraglia. We want to keep the fishermen and the Société Nautique. We therefore felt that it wasn’t possible to hand over the reins very quickly to someone with a diploma, and only the people of Troyes can understand what the Port is all about.

I’d like to thank all those involved in the Port Council, including you, the Société Nautique represented by your President, and all the others, for their hard work. I’m responsible for this port on a pyramid basis and there was no question of leaving it to someone who didn’t understand, no question of giving it over to private management. You should know that when we had these problems, I turned to the Prefect, who gave me a lot of guidance, as did the Public Prosecutor. In order to protect me, the Prefect told the Mayor that ports are often privately managed everywhere, that a public service contract should be set up, and that you should ask him for whatever you wanted. But that’s impossible for all the reasons I’ve given. We’d lose the Port of Saint-Tropez, we’d lose our identity and our soul, because as Alex Arman put it so well, the church tower is the heart of Saint-Tropez and the Port is its lungs. That’s why we’ve decided to join forces and operate in a very secure way with Pascal Bonnet, who everyone knows, who knows Saint-Tropez, the events, the “DNA” of Saint-Tropez.

We have hired an Administrative and Financial Director (DAF). I can tell you her name today, as we had to wait a month for special reasons. She is an extremely competent engineer who is very familiar with all of the Port’s public service management procedures, in the person of Magali Dragon Aranda. I think we’ve got everything we need, and I have every confidence in her team. And finally, to assist Michel Perrault, who is also in charge of culture at the communauté de commune, he represents me everywhere and he also agreed to be deputy for the Port, thank you Michel. He’s still here, still very active, but to create this link with all the players, all the associations, and to work collegially now, because it’s very important to take your opinions on board, I was lucky enough to have Jean-Claude Moreu who volunteered to take on a one-year assignment to support us in this relationship and so that no one can feel apart and work with the users, all the associations that occupy the Port. It’s a superb team and I’m confident that we’ll succeed in this challenge together. Thank you’.

Sylvain Bretagne, Vice President Sailing, presents the 2024 sports report

First of all, on behalf of the Société Nautique de Saint Tropez, I would like to thank all those involved – the volunteers, the permanent staff (Chloé, Fred and Gilles), the members of the Board of Directors, the town of Saint Tropez, the partners and the sailors – who enable the SNST to organise quality events that are the envy of many clubs. The year 2024 was a busy one, with 13 regattas organised, representing a total of 655 boats and 7,200 crew members. We were also present on the circuit of the world’s sailing elite, as it should not be forgotten that the SNST was the support club for the French challenge for the 2024 America’s Cup. To organise our events, we call on around 250 volunteers, including referees, juries, committees, anchors, pilots, and all the people ashore, in the bar, at the buffet, etc.

At the club we are fortunate to have : – Our teams of referees Georges Korhel, Jean-Pierre and Mireille Epoudry, Alice Coquant, Martine Dumahut, Jacques Herry, Roger Gibert, etc. – Our shore teams are managed by our conductors Michel Pavillon and Sophie Arman, who have brought together an army of volunteers. – Our teams on the water are managed by Gilles. – Then Fred and Chloé, who are in charge of harmonising everything, also with the help of volunteers. Now, to have great regattas, we also need great crews. And at the SNST we have what it takes. I won’t be able to name them all, but at least the main ones have shone on the various waters.

In IRC, the SNST shone by finishing 3rd in the IRC Mediterranean championship thanks to the results of SNST boats in various regattas throughout the year: Gérard Logel’s boat AROBAS, which finished 3rd in IRC 0 Gian Marco Magrini’s boat VITO, which finished 2nd in IRC 1 And Guy Clayes’ EXPRESSO, which finished 1st in IRC 4. We also have boats that are more geared towards ocean racing, such as the Paprec 600 in Saint Tropez, with Philippe Frantz’s ALBATOR, which finished 3rd in this race on a magnificent course designed by Georges Korhel in the middle of our beautiful Mediterranean.

In Osiris, we are also very well represented with boats that are often on the podium: Lionel Michon’s L’autre femme, Christian Le Floch’s Majolan, Serge Ehrhard’s Mikala, Joel Seckler’s TikiToo… In dragon, we have Dirk Oldenburg, who won a major event in this category, the Marblehead Trophy. This trophy was created in 1929, and historically the winner of this event has to organise the following year’s event with his club, which is of course what we’re going to do. And finally, in the 2024 AFYT trophy ranking in the Marconi Classic class, Jean-Pierre SAUVAN’s MARIA GIOVANNA II came 2nd and Henry COCHIN’s EUGENIA V 3rd.

Then in 2024, we set up a regatta committee, which I chair as vice-president for sailing. This committee is made up of members of the Board, race committees and sailors. The aim of this committee is to introduce new features and improvements to our events. We are listening to the club’s racing members to continue to develop regattas at the SNST. We have started to set up training weekends, racing rules workshops and, for the festive side, small barbecues.

Here’s something new for 2025: The Regatta Committee and the Board of Directors have decided to pay tribute to Georges le Troquer, who passed away last autumn. Georges was a great SNST racer and we thought it was only right to set up a ‘Pen Kalet’ trophy, which will be awarded every year to the best SNST member boat in the Club’s regattas. We look forward to seeing you in 2025 to find out who will be the first boat to win the ‘Pen Kalet’ trophy. I’d like to take this opportunity to say a few words about 2025, which has already got off to a good start and will be another great year for the SNST. We’ll be welcoming some great people with the TP52 Super Series in May, the SailGP with 12 boats in September, the Swan Nation Trophies in October and the return of the Dragons in November for the Marblehead Trophy. And let’s not forget our historic regattas: Challenge interclub, Festival Armen, Coupe de l’Hippocampe, les dames de Saint-Tropez, les régates des Bravades, La Paprec 600 Saint Tropez, La Loro Piana Giraglia, Le trophée du Bailli de Suffren, L’aoutienne VSC Trophée Robert Pourchet, Les voiles de Saint Tropez and les Voiles d’automne.

I have a feeling that our permanent staff, volunteers and club managers won’t be bored. I’d just like to remind you that anyone who wants to can take a diploma to become a referee, jury or committee member. Don’t hesitate to ask the club’s referees how to go about it. Once again, thank you to everyone and I wish you great sailing in 2025 and hope we have some great organisations.

Thanks to their efforts, we have solid agreements. Our Chairman will have explained the details to you.
