Good start under the sun for the PAPREC 600 Saint-Tropez for solo, double, Class40 or crewed competitors

At noon on Wednesday 24 May 2023, twenty-four boats, including seven double-handed Class40s, seven solo racers, seven double-handed racers and three crewed racers set off from Saint-Tropez for the “PAPREC 600 Saint-Tropez” Mediterranean ocean race.

The day before, on Tuesday 23rd May, during the skippers’ briefing at the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, in view of the light weather forecast, the race director, Georges Korhel, announced a reduction in the course of around 200 nautical miles.

This will allow all competitors to complete the race before the prize-giving ceremony on Monday 29 May at 4pm.

The course is about 400 nautical miles, from Saint Tropez to Cap Corse Porte P4 (between the island of Giraglia on the port side and the island of Corsica on the starboard side), descent to the Bouches de Bonifacio leaving Corsica on the starboard side, Bouches de Bonifacio Porte P1 with Corsica on the starboard side, arrival in Saint Tropez.

What they say (continued) :

SOTRAPLANT TRS : Class 40 – Duo- 1st Participation Matthieu FOULQUIER GAZAGNES- Xavier BROERS

“The project started on the pontoons of Le Havre during the last Transat Jacques Vabre 2022 where we decided to jump into the deep end. We had the opportunity to buy the class40 157 in June 2022 in order to prepare her for the next Transat Jacques Vabre 2023”

The 600 Paprec is our first major event and we’ll be able to measure ourselves against the big names in Class 40. It’s one of the biggest Class 40 events in the Mediterranean and we’re very happy to be taking part in it to train!

Matthieu Foulquier-Gazagnes is the local of the stage since he is a member of the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez.

FURTIF : Solo – 1st participation Gérard GUILLUY :

“Throughout the year I take part in banana and coastal regattas (the majority of them throughout the year). I need to break the rhythm, to get out of my “comfort zone”… A beautiful course with water to race, often engaged, with a varied weather, sharp crews, and a lot of pre-game conviviality …

All these ingredients were present in the 2021 edition of the 400 mile solo race, and I had a blast…

So I’m looking forward to meeting up with my friends and trying out the new 600 mile format. We should be spoiled this year!

SOLENN : Solo – Ludovic GERARD :

“I have been enjoying racing in offshore regattas for the past few years, both double-handed and more recently single-handed. After a great season in 2022 where Nicolas Brossay, my co-skipper, and I won the Cap Martinique transatlantic race and the Drheam cup in the Atlantic, then the Rolex Middle Sea race in Malta, this year I’m coming back solo for the 2nd time (after the 400 nautical mile Au Large de Saint Tropez in 2021) to race the Paprec 600′ with my jpk 1080 “Solenn for Pure Ocean”. This race promises to be intense for the solo sailors on a magnificent course, and it will also be good training before the Cap Martinique 2024 transatlantic race, in which I will be participating solo.

“I have chosen to run for the past 3 years to raise awareness of the Pure Ocean Foundation and to raise funds for the research projects supported by the foundation. The preservation of the oceans is a subject that is particularly close to my heart, and I am proud to be a Pure Ocean lover!”
